Hi,

We have a self build. We are just getting the roof tiles on it currently and will be putting the windows and doors in it over the next few weeks.

When should we get it insured please? With whom? We have never had any sort of insurance on it apart from at the beginning of the project. The whole thing has taken ages and no-one would insure us after x amount of time as they assumed there was some sort of problem on the site. There wasn't. We have just been slow is all.

Is it possible to insure an almost finished self build or has it got to be signed off by Building Control first does anyone know? Can we get insurance on a house with no windows for example? I am worried something bad will happen and we will have an expensive repair job on our hands! TIA

Time to get insurance would be after right this full stop .

Use a broker or discuss your needs with the insurer as you need to have the right cover for the situation. You don't need the wait for building control.
