my stirling oil burner has air in the fuel line. my plumber suggested tricking the photoelectric cell with a torch to keep the burner running to drag the air lock through (he can't come until tomorrow and its freezing here), but i cant find it. the model and ser. no. is 00-11-G140 3146. can anyone help me please?

Take the plastic cap off (allen screw) and the photoelectric cell is beneath this cap, just to the right of the lock out lamp/button.
Twist it to remove - its the housing thats screwed in.
Its a better idea to release the supply pipe to the burner though and bleed from there.
John :)

Anyone else would advise you to bleed the air by the pump vent nipple on the pressure gauge port,

Ditch the plumber and get and get someone that knows what they are
doing with oil boilers.

Running the oil pump dry can cause serious damage.

Vent air out through the vent/pressure gauge port on the oil pump.

no idea how to do that.

would it be possible for me to ring one of u or one of u to ring me?

You'll maybe get some info from oilburnerspares.com but its too much to ask the pump to bleed itself if its up there...there is a hand pump available for this very purpose.

i've managed to do it before when i ran out of oil once. this time tho, i wonder whether its actually dragging air in. or whether the cold has had an effect. it was minus 13 here last night

Check over any external oil filters. There could be water inside that has frozen and blocked the oil flow.
If it's that cold where you are it could be that the oil has got waxy and
thick which could prevent the oil flowing properly.

If you have not run out of oil recently then it is unlikely to be air in the
system.

yes my burner is bright red but it doesnt look like any of those pictured.

yes my plumber suggested the oil may have turned waxy. i haven't run out of oil in years but there is air in the fuel line i can see it when trying to get the oil thru

If you have vertical sight tube on the outside of the tank sometimes
air can be dragged in if the on/off valve is faulty and boiler run with
this in on position.

Are you sure it is air that you see and not water?

yes i do have a vertical sight tube on the tank. if the on/off valve is faulty i will have to wait for the plumber tomorrow :(

i have a pic of the burner on my profile if that would help

btw yes it could be water but it looks like when there WAS air in the line when i ran out of oil years ago
