Hi, I want to buy a pair of 6' high wooden gates to go across an 8' drive. Can anybody recommend a supplier of good quality gates at a reasonable price? The only place I've found so far is Cannock Gates, which seem reasonable, but I'd be keen to hear of any experiences with them!

Thanks

Jim

Bought my 8 x 6 gates from Cannock, 3 years ago. Well made, strong, and treated right, will last for years. Cost me £400 the pair, but money well spent, as an estate agent said it added about £2K extra to house price. I used oak 9" x 9" post, expensive, but worth it; looks fantastic.
I could of had better quality gates locally, but cost allot more than Cannock. Hope I've been helpful!

Do Cannock Gates fit the gates ? Put the posts in etc ? do they measure up for you too ?(saves any mishaps at your expense)

unfortunately not, but the catalogue shows you how to measure up, and work out what size of gates you need. Installing gates was hard work, but well rewarding. You have to be able to measure well with a tape measure, and get the post distance just right allowing for gate expansion etc, and concreting in the posts was the trickiest job. It's important not to rush the job, take some time off work, and make it a long weekend job!
I'm no chippie, but concentration, and double checking each measurement paid off big time. However if you not confident, get a builder in, or a landscape gardener. But you'll pay more for their time than the cost of the gates!

you could always measure it as show, then get a friend to do it and see if they are the same, if not one of you must be wrong

Blimey we should have him stuffed! At last someone who realises that the materials only make up a small proportion of the total cost of the job :D

I made by driveway gates using t and g floorboards ,stained them and they are still up after two years.

I wanted to do the same, but 'er indoors put the stoppers on that idea!

Although with delivery times at Cannock Gates currently around 4 weeks, she may change her mind!

I have also made gates from T&G and they were fine, but it occurred to me whilst reading this that you could also use solid hardwood flooring for a nicer job
