why do you want to put a screw that deep into a sleeper

we use an impact driver for normal screws in sleepers (hardwood or softwood) if we are screwing them then we just screw through the backs at an angle, so you dont need such a long screw. If we are using timberlocks, then we use an sds drill. Nothing else seems to be up to it.

if you pilot drill the hole then it is much easier.
