My old 6v JCB screwdriver is on its last legs.

Which would you reccomend?

Will go up to around £100.

I've seen the Metabo, Dewalt and Makita all 7.2v.

Any advice would be welcome.

Personally I would go for a Makita, there 12v is a good solid bit of kit and I use mine daily. It is light and reasonably compact.

Bosch make a small screwdriver which gets good reviews.

The Makita has the advantage of a proper chuck, I don't know about the Bosch.

There are some excellent bargains to be had at the moment, Screwfix have a Hitachi 18v with 3 batts and a torch for under a £100. Probably a bit OTT for your needs though. :)

The Bosch unit is a great piece of kit used one for awhile now never lets me down good battery life plenty of power too.

for £100 the choice will be massive, i have just bought an 18v WORX hammer drill/driver for only £70 including two batteries only been using it for a couple of weeks but it is great for what i need it for on a kitchen fitting contract

if you are looking for something small , light and powerful , try the Durofix 10.8v - more powerful than the other 10.8's available and just as reliable

I second that.

I've had one for two years now, and I would be lost without it.

I don't think you'll find a more powerful screwdriver in such a small and lightweight unit.

sometimes its worth upping your spends to get really decent quality,

check out the specials at your local builders merchants,in my local travis perkins during the week and they had a makita mxt WITH 3 3amp batterys for £164+vat which i thought was b.loody good, considering when i bought mine about 18-2 years ago it cost £300.and ive just had to replace a battery at £104+vat.

it all depends on what you're after but for small jobs i've got the bosch psr 200 Li, which is a 7.2v lithium ion screwdriver, costs about £45. cracking screwdriver and can do 12nm which is not bad. it's small and fits nicely in the pocket. if you're after something with more clout then you'll be definately looking at 10.8v and above though.
