Hi guys and girls.

I'm asking a stupid question because I'm no good at DIY

I want to install the housing for flushed sockets into solid/brick walls.
Can I use a rechargeable drill for this with a masonry bit. Or do I have to use a special electric masonry drill.

Cheers, much appreciated.

Hammer and Bolster.

How do you think we used to do it before drills?

It all depends on the brick hardness.

Best way on a budget is to use a mains powered drill with a depth stop, and then a good old hammer and bolster.

Hammer and bolster just won't work. The masonry is like solid rock.

Bloody nightmare

I will have to rent or buy a really powerful robust drill.

Cheers guys.

you can buy (or better rent for this one-time job) a 'robust' hammer drill to chisel your way through... no?

get a cordless, like Makita BHR241RFE or Bosch GBH36VLi.

Either of these, and you will be done in minutes.
Any of those and the tool will be wrecked in minutes.
They work in soft blocks. Useless in hard brick or concrete.

Their channelling chisels are crap as well - they blunt extremely quickly, and on the last one I bought, the SDS end sheared right off.

I Was going on the fact the walls are probably not as soild as the OP thinks. As he/she mentions no good at DIY.

But I have just done as I advocat against and made an assumption.

As for the SDS bit, mine are fine. Could it be the way you used it, or just a duff one? And I sharpen mine anyway.
