Which filler to use ?

Need to know which is the best filler to use to fill knot holes in wood, I have just built a new banister and some of the Knot holes are on the top edge of the bottom rail, any advice would be great.

Are you painting the banister? if you are then use car filler. (P38)

I am painting it. thanks for that Andy, wouldn't have thought of that, used it plenty in the old days on cars.

There's a product called wudfil which in all honesty is the same as car body filler, the only difference is that it comes in a range of colours.
