Which lighting for dark stairwell/landing?

my stairwell and landing are mega dull, i have a 60 watt bulb and thats it, there is no light, so i need something to really light it up, ideas welcome. :thumbs:

If your stairway has a high ceiling,I always fancied using something like

recessed into the ceiling. But these are intended for commercial premises :LOL:

You don't say whether your house is modern or a period property. I have a modern townhouse and recently bought this light for a dining area: http://www.johnlewis.com/Electrical...ll+Ceiling+Lights/6534/230334721/Product.aspx

It takes three 40 watt bulbs and gives a beautiful spread of warm light. If that's too bright for you, it will work with a dimmer. If it's a period property, a brass lantern might work. Some of these take two bulbs, and again you can dim. Check out the John Lewis site.
