Which screws?

I am wanting to attach a piece of 70x44mm to the existing stud as shown below..

This is being put in to support my tv bracket as shown in thread http://www.diynot.com/forums/audio-visual/joist-width-for-mounting-tv.353659/

Which screws and size do i use for this, the existing stud is 30mm wide.
 
I assume the additional supporting timber is turned on it's side so 70mm depth plus 44mm of existing stud.
So a 5.0x100mm wood screw will do, if you fix in from both sides, use noggins as additional support.
That should carry most sized TVs
 
Sorry i didn't make myself clear. :oops:

The new timber is 44x70mm and the existing stud is 30x70mm. So the screw would be going through 44mm into 30mm.

I won't be able to fix from both sides as i would have to remove more plasterboard so were hoping to just scrrew in from the side showing.
