which size junction box for 2.5m gauge wire

thanks steve, i must be on the ring main as i have two cables into the one and only socket in this room, if i want to extend it which type of junction box do i need a three way or four way? and what gauge for the crimps as i have one a 3 way that will take up to 15m2 will this be ok to use?

i've just sorted out the wires that were sitting on top of the heating pipes and re-routed them now i will take one of the cables off and add it to the socket i want to put in

just one final note, how can i make sure this is actually a ring main.. and can anybody work out what that extra cable is from that was powering a heater?

i thought maybe it was a timed circuit but i have nothing as such on the cu

Nope, only you can work that out. Is it live?

As for extending the cable, this is best done inside the original socket backbox, using terminal blocks. To use crimps on mains, you need a ratchet crimper.

To ensure ring continuity, first turn off the power to this circuit. Disconnect and seperate the wires in the back of the socket. Using your multimeter, probe both live cores on continuity or resistance setting.

You should see continuity there.

the problem i have with crimping is that im limited on spacebehind first socket and i cannot run along a wall only through joists.unless you have an image or reading of this.
so i thought one cable into a junction box and extended to new socket, then to another from new socket, then from third to orignal main socket.
