Hi,

I'll be building an interior false chimney breast (inset above mantlepiece) to house a balanced flue from a gas fire (ground floor). The fire also convects warm air into and out of the air space in the false breast. (side vents)

The fire installers have advised me to to make it out of fireboard and metal studding.

Can anyone give me a clue as to a suitable fireboard for this type of job, and should I fix something inside to the ceiling? The choice of board on the net is vast and a bit confusing. Also, metal studding - what is a suitable product and where can I get it?

Thanks in advance, Neil.

Supalux or Masterlux for the board. Then skimmed or add a 9.5mm plasterboard and skim that

Matal studding is common at many merchants now - inculding B&Q and Wickes.

I think 6mm should do if its narrow spans between the studs.

Oh, and the other one is Masterboard not Masterlux - and is generally cheaper
