An easy one (hopefully) for the gas boiler educated amongst us.
What is the difference between the Vaillant Eco Tech Plus 428 and the same make Eco Tech Plus 630 - apart from the obvious which is one has a 28kW rating and the other a 30kW ?
I have a vented system and these two are my favourite options so far - any comments ?

:?: :?: :?:

Much poking around the interweb and I think I can answer some of the above question. The conventional or "heat only" boiler does not have an integrated pump within the boiler cabinet casing - in my case the pump is located in the airing cupboard together with the two actuator valves for the CH & HW. So unless I think there is an advantage in junking the existing pump the 428 is the boiler I need.

I would check to see if you need such a large output boiler first. 28Kw is a lot of heat, unless you have a large house with lots of radiators.
You will get a lot of grief if you over rate the boiler.

Read some of the posting by the experts on this forum, to give you some idea of you heating requirements.

I have the Vaillant EcoTec 415 (15Kw) in a 3 bed 1980s semi, and there is more than enough output.

Point taken keithsb and thanks for the reply. The boiler which we have which is goosed is a 24kW in a 4 bedroom detached house built in 1932 (so old radiators & system). There are 14 radiators and they haven't been what you would call red hot but adequate. Upping the output by 4kW on a boiler which is more efficient anyway seemed to be the way to go.

There is no point upping the boiler if you do not have the rads to dissipate the heat!

Use the Boiler Size Calculator to find out what size boiler you need.

Use Stelrad Elite Catalogue to find out the output of your existing radiators.

It's OK if the radiators add up to more than the required boiler size boiler.

I'd be very, very wary about installing a 428 - your RGI needs to be very up on Vaillant products to get this equipment to work as it should.

Do a search on here to find out why!!

I have just gone through the calculations and it returned at 29.07 so presumably 28kW should be spot on ??

Gasman77 I am committed now without dropping the heating engineer in it as he has purchased the unit already.
I have been through the posts and I have a file of faults and fixes & comments kindly donated by you guys.

Agile Tony I bet you are a stroppy bugler to live with  - some good posts though !!

Yeah, I had to move out. You should see what he did with the soap.

You'll have to ask his cat what its like...... :D

I don't think there's any thing wrong with a 428(oddly they come at 30kw),some installers don't understand them but if your guys spec'd the Vaillant I'm sure he knows the issues.

630 is good if you want your f&e out,or leave it in place, cap the vent and fit a NRV to the cold feed, remove external pump.
You've then got a system boiler that automatically tops up.

630 is cheaper than a 428....god knows why.

lcgs I must admit that's not what I have found with the 630 about £150 more. I have influenced the installer and I honestly don't know if he has ever fitted a 428 in the past - though he didn't flinch when I suggested it.

When you read through the posts relating to the 428 there is a common theme and therefore a fairly common solution to most of the poblems related - or am I just trying to reassure myself ??
I would like to think a manufacturer of reasonable repute such as Vaillant would make sure their entire range was of reasonable quality up to the job intended ?? :?:

Well hopefully one more night (only) of frozen nuts - the new boiler goes in tomorrow !!!! :P You gas guys really have got nature on your side, it's basically a war of attrition, man v's cold and cold wins everytime.
I suggest that would make a good signature for one of you and never has a more true phrase ever been spoken or typed. :!:

The new boiler went in today without a hitch, and the guy made a far better job of it than British Gaff did 10 years or so ago. The Vaillant EcoTech Plus 428 took no setting up and so far is working as it said on the tin. My central heating system has been added to and changed since the house was built in 1932 so we have opted for a chemical flush rather than tempting fate with a power flush, this will be drained and replaced with inhibitor in a few days time. A magnetic filter has also been added to the boiler return so we'll see what that recovers.
I have a small amount of air in the system still which always happens after a full drain down with one radiator slightly low on temperature and another cold, however I'm not too worried as they were both hot when the old boller was working and they have always come back on in the past.
The new 428 is exceptionally quiet and with dimensions much smaller than the old Minimiser we were able alter the position on the wall - which involved re-driilling the vent pipe - creating a lot more space.
Am I a happy bunny ? Just a lot !! :D
