Whirlpool not draining

I recently bought a whirlpool washing machine which is about 2 years old, it did the first load fine, but when I did the 2nd load it went through the wash fine but when it tried to drain the water for the spin a loud humming noise came from the back of the machine and the water wouldn`t drain, it then tried to spin with water in the drum! after about a minute it stopped and cut out, am I right in thinking this is a pump problem?

try this

put pump outlet pipe into a bucket / bowl which is on the floor, if water comes out "fast" by itself pump is not pumping if no water pump / filter is blocked

I put the outlet pipe into bucket as you suggested and water gushed out of the machine so its definitely a pump problem.
