Is there any fine grained, tough, smooth white filler or plaster that comes in a powder that you can buy in the high street. I've got some fine (and not so fine) cracks in the wall that I want to fill-in and then paint over. I bought some of the Polyfilla stuff but they're all dark grey? The paint is white so I'm trying to avoid having apply to many coats.

gyproc board filler. its designed for taping and jointing, but is lovely to work and sand down. about 10 for a big bag and goes off in 45 minutes

You have bought the wrong type of polyfilla thats why.....interior is white exterior is dark greeny grey.

As Thermo says gyproc board filler (easy-fil) is very good.....but you have to buy a fairly big bag.

Look for interior polyfilla

Be careful with the ready mixed stuff...some of it is like concrete to rub down

Oh and if the cracks are really fine..hairline...just paint over them...or you will end up with loads of filler marks on the wall

And you will have to give them two coats otherwise they will 'flash' through the finish coat

Or if the wall colour is similar to the finish colour......rub down..touch up the filler (with a radiator roller to create the texture of the existing wall) then a coat over the whole wall.

I always mix filler with the paint I'm going to use instead of water...then it doesn't take extra coats to cover[/i]

Isn't it like concrete to rub down though?

I've never encountered any problems as yet but I've only ever filled little holes with it, suppose it would be a pain on bigger jobs
