White paint turning yellow.

I know that something was taken out of paint, making it more prone to yellowing.
A few years ago, we had the whole house painted, and the guy said he used stuff that won’t yellow. It did, and within a year. It was very noticeably different between the doors and architrave.

Is this inevitable?

No.
Waterbased acrylic gloss stays white. Water-based alkid will yellow a bit over 3 to 6 years. It's hardly noticeable though.
Oil gloss goes yellow fast especially in poor natural light. Loft hatch is first to go yellow..

Rub paint with meths to see if you have oil or waterbased paint. Nothing comes off if it is oil
