Might sound a daft question. But a ceiling fan involves roof work and/or core drilling (or banging a larger than ness. hole and making good).

Or would one generally hire a roofer to fit the vent, and an electrician to do the inside bit?

i tend to fit the fan and get a roofer to fit a vent tile on the roof.

A roofer normally fits a vent tile if venting through the roof unless it is possible to vent through a gable end.

When extracting a fan through a loft space you may need to fit a condensation trap and possibly insulated ducting. Have considered any of this?

core drill through the wall is much less likely to cause future complications than making a hole in a roof. You can hire a core drill and do it yourself, easy. Why do you want a ceiling mounted extractor?

Don't put it directly above a bath or shower.

A sparky should connect the fan and do the paperwork. I am strongly in favour of having a fan with overrun timer, with switched live controlled by the lightswitch.

A centrifugal fan is generally quieter and more powerful than an axial fan.
