Who to use for an asbestos survey?

Due to Lockdown, I am thinking of doing up our house a bit but I am rather concerned about asbestos.

Just as a precaution, I would prefer to pay for an asbetsos survey before I touch anything.

How do I go about finding a reputable company for this (I am based in Essex)?

It is such a serious thing that I really cannot afford to end up using a rogue company.

Also, if a firm offers removal as well as testing, is there a slight conflict of interest?

Should I use a firm that does testing only?

Any pointers would be much appreciated.

You could ask your local council, I wanted a reputable company to sort my woodworm in the loft, I rang the local council and they wouldn’t recommend a company but told me the company that they use, so ask your local council who they use, as they would only use a reputable company.

UKAS accredited.

Seems a bit of a waste of time though, as they will only check known potential components, not go around the house searching for asbestos.

Take samples, put them in the double bags provided, stick some labels on, post it all to them. I had results sheet emailed to me in 48hrs (mine were all white asbestos!) several rooms in my house are boarded out in the stuff!
