Picture the scene, dusk, raining, car in front, police pickup behind in a 30mph limit. Car in front stops to turn right, car in middle just about stops in time, police? no chance,......straight in the back.
"I was driving at a safe distance" said Mr Plod.
"Yeah right" said Plod's boss, "our fault, contact our insurers, they will arrange a hire car for you 'til it's sorted. Night all"

Someone from the "force", "Sid, we've just trashed another car, can you take it to your yard, mate?

So things drag on as they do, with storage charges and hire charges accumulating. Original car only worth about £600. Hire charge £100/week for about a month, and storage charges now at £600. Is this a good way to spend money?

Anyway, storage company is now chasing car owner for payment, but thequestion is, since the police arranged for the tow-away, is it them who made the contract, and so are liable? or is there something subtle in the motor insurance world that is different?

Legally they have the right to call a breakdown truck and have the Queens Highway cleared----bit of a sticky one there Oilman--you may have a fight on your hands to get them to admit their liability to have to pay the storage costs
