Why are their four feeds to the wall light??

We've recently moved into a new house and previous owners had part-renovated, including rewiring. As part of this, they installed new wall light cabling but hadn't fitted any lights. But this wiring seem a little odd - in each room there is wiring for a pair of wall lights - in each pair, on the left light position is a single cable feed as you'd expect but, on the right light, we have four sets of cabling poking out of the wall! Each room has only one light switch. So, could anyone shed light on why they wired in four cables?? Our local spark hadn't seen this before!

That isn't good. You may want to find someone else - multiple cables at light fittings and switches is very common.

Already looking! And thanks for responses, I expected to hear it wasn't that unusual/daft especially as other work done on the house is to a high standard. Cheers.
