Why is gold so expensive

Yeah, I know all of that, but it doesn't answer the fundamental question, why is it so coverted. Same reason that people put great store on a lump of highly pressurized carbon.

It just is.
Similar to today's stockmarket where hardly a company is valued at it's intrinsic value, or on the shareprice/divident return.
