We in the west have to accept part blame in this by provoking the bear. We have been sticking it to Russia for decades, we have excluded them at every opportunity from NATO membership to when the Warsaw Pact was dissolved.

Chechnya, another example of Russian aggresion and everyone looked on without as much as a warning towards Russia. Nobody was runniong to join NATO then either. Only the previous USSR independant states are at risk of Russian iinvasion, Hungary, Poland etc are already full NATO members so he wont go there. Ukraine is as important as Chechyna to stop any NATO intervention and for them becoming members.
