No shouldn't do , all that normally happens if the batteries die is that in the event of a power cut you won't have any battery back up and the siren will sound.

It's possible the transformer is intermittently failing and because you have no battery back up , the siren sounds

Very much doubt it ....transformers tend to work or not ....also it’s a wireless bell so that is also doubtful

So when you have a faulty battery the control panels do not give odd warning sounds ?
Honeywell/optimal panels burn out resistors when battery faulty.
Modern control panels indicate a battery fault on keypad.
Texecom vertias control panels cause random tamper faults and power light to flash when battery faulty
Other control panels the transformers hum and buzz due to charging a faulty battery.
There are a number of things that could be causing this fault and you have to start somewhere.

Don't forget the op has a basic alarm which is 10 years old

And ? Got basic panels out there 30 years old ...and faulty batteries still can cause an issue , putting strain on other components as it struggles to try and charge a faulty battery , especially in alarm condition as more current is drawn !

That wasn't my point.....

My point was when I quoted handymanjos post was that this wasn't a modern control panel , it is an old one which hasn't the facility to indicate a fault on the battery
