They have some six panel doors at under £20.

My question is how can I find out whats inside them for fixings. You can see wood on the sides but there are no instructions showing how thick the wood is. Many of those light doors are just hardboard with a honeycombe of cardboard in the middle.

Which is exactly what the Wickes ones are - and pretty much all others too!

They have a framework about 1" wide down the sides and 1½" top and bottom. There is a lock block on one side of the door only for lock/latch and handle fitting and the rest is, as you say, filled with cardboard.

No edge should be trimmed by more than ¼", but you can get away with trimming ½" top and bottom, or more if you are prepared to fit new timber strips after cutting.

The lock side should be indicated, only one side has a timber in the correct place to fit a catch.

Come on Tony, charging £84 per hour, you can afford decent doors. Spend a bit more money and get some quality doors.

That's expensive for 6 panel doors, even the pre-finished variety. They are a bit crappy but serve a purpose & look quiet good in a modern décor. They will take standard door furniture & the lock block side is clearly marked on the top of the door. You can trim around 8mmm off the bottom but go any more & you’re likely to looking at the inside of the door but it’s not really a problem, just glue the bottom back inside the door.

Biggest problem is they all look the same & everyone knows they are really cheap crap.
