Widening doorway - what to submit?

Hello all,

One of the last and arguably most significant changes I'm looking to make to our first house, an Edwardian mid-terrace, is to widen the doorway between the dining room and the kitchen extension, which was likely tacked on to the back of the house in the 1970s (see photos). The wall makes the already small kitchen feel claustrophobic, and it robs a lot of natural light from the dining room.

It's a load-bearing wall. I'm pretty clear on the construction aspects, but for a project like this what would I need to submit as part of my building regs application? Is a description of the works enough, or am I going to need technical drawings, engineer's report, ie the works?

Building Notice

- a description is usually enough. A very basic floor plan (just line drawing) if asked for.

If a steel beam is to be used, some councils will pre-approve certain types up to certain lengths. No calcs required if using a standard lintel.

No checks are done before the work, so make sure you know what your doing or confirm things first with the inspector

Full plans

- you submit proper plans and specifications. A bit OTT for this type of work.

The proposal is checked first, and approved. You then work to the approved plan.
