Hi there

We're looking at knocking through from kitchen to dining room and adding a utility room to the kitchen.

Looking at my local authority's website it seems to say that these need to be of the wired type for new builds. It therefore infers that I can continue using the battery operated ones that I currently have and therefore not include them on the plans we are drawing up ourselves?

Does that make sense?

It depends on the existing layout/fire escape routes and the proposed layout/fire escape routes. Bungalow or house or flat? Loft been conversion? etc

If any new smoke alarms will be required BC are likely to insist on linked mains powered alarms throughout.

Cheers for the reply.

The proposed new single extension to a detached two story house will be 3m x 3m and will be added to the existing kitchen which is the current exit downstairs (although we have patio doors too).

Exisiting smoke alarms (battery powered) will continue to 'guard' the hall upstairs and downstairs (both within 3 metres of all rooms).

Am hoping we wont need to lay need cables upstairs etc!
