Hi i need to install 6 wired smoke alarms and one heat sensor in the kitchen.I intend to get an electrican but i am looking for the least disruptive way of installation to my ceilings.I have read on the web that they can be installed into the lighting circuit. Is this correct

You need a 230v voltage source at one point. The usual/easiest method is to take a permanent live&neutral from a nearby light point.

The disruptive bit is that, from the starting location, you'll need to run 3core&earth cable to all of the other alarm locations.

The lighting circuit(s) do not form the interlink.
To avoid running wires everywhere, you could take a power feed from a local light fitting to each smoke alarm and use wireless bases, but they are pricey.

Why do you need so many alarms by the way? Is this a house, or something else?

We are doing a loft conversion which requires smoke and heat detectors all over the house, the plans say this circuit need a dedicated supply.

You may want to check this in your case if it's a requirement.

The Wireless Models are a Backplate that sits behind the Alarm/Heat Detector , They require a Feed & Neutral which can be taken from a Light point nearby by fishing a Twin & Earth from the Light point to maybe a point a Metre away, subject to them having a Loop System and not just having a Switched Live & Neutral at the Light point

So if acceptable they can be fitted with a minimum of disruption , Otherwise its a Feed & Neutral from a Light point and a 3 Core & Earth linked to each Detector.

I have fitted these Wireless Systems in HMO Buildings (Student Accom) , they also required a Fire Alarm system which was also a Wireless system , This was covered by Manchester Building Control , Though other areas may have their own ideas / requirements.

Your electrician will know the least disruptive way to install them. I would expect it to be possible with out any damage to your ceilings at all.
