I was wondering if there was anyone who could advise me on installing my new ceramic hob , my old electric hob had 30amp 3 core wiring going in to the cooker switch , but the new hob has sections for two lives to go in to it , I have wired it as before earth in the correct one , neutral in the correct one and the live in one of the sections but then only two rings work , do I run a spur wire from the live section through into the other live section.

There should have been a link bar between the lives, if it's missing or lost you'll have to make one out of some insulated cable.
