I would like to fit an outside light on the back of my garage c/w PIR sensor so that it only works in the dark when it senses motion, and no need for an on/off switch. Can I just tee into the wiring from the inside light in the garage?

Yes. Just connect the permanent live, neural and earth to the corresponding wires in your ceiling rose. You’ll probably have someone come on here telling you to get a time-served electrician out to make those three connections......

Probably get someone pointing out that the ceiling rose in the garage may not contain a permanent live...

To check if its a permanent live do I just switch the light of then put a volt meter across the wires at ceiling rose?

You might be able to tell just by looking.

If there are two or more red or brown wires connected together but connected to nothing else they will more than likely to be permanent live.

Post a picture ?
