Wiring in an external light

Hi, I have a newish house built in 2006 and want to wire in an external wall light. There is an existing cable from the house which has an internal switch provided to a blank box on the external wall and I am fitting the new light here.

The existing wiring to the box on the external wall has four cores, black, grey, brown and a bare copper wire. The light fitting I was hoping to use has only three internal connectors for neutral (white) earth (green/yellow) and live (brown).

There is no explanation as to what connects to which. Can any one help.

you need a multi meter to find out what does what, sicne it could be any colour doing anything.

if you havent got a multimeter why not? you would not expect to hit nails in without a hammer, so why attempt electrical work without a multi meter?

Is there a switch somewhere inside the house near where you are putting the light which appears to do nothing at the moment?
