Is it ok to run cables in the cavity on an external wall. The mains is situated in a cupboard at the bottom of the stairs. The mains is fitted in the cavity. I wired a ring main for my utility room along the cavity. Its RCD protected. When I pulled the cables through it had black on it which I'm guessing is off some damp proofing. Will it be ok or do you think I could now end up with damp problems?

Only a DIY'er here, but I wouldn't worry about that at all.

The damp proof course will still be in between the courses of bricks, where it needs to be, and won't affect the cables.

As long as they are not damaged (cuts in the sheathing etc) from their journey, they will be fine.
