In our new place we have inherited an old wisteria growing over a garden wall. We had to clear out some decking because it was rotting. Underneath were several 'mini-sinkholes' that I can only imagine are from the wisteria roots. Now we want to pave over this area around the wisteria, but are quite concerned the roots will just mess up the paving down the line.
I have thought to ask the landscape guys to dig out around the roots, cut those nearest the surface and then put down a layer of concrete before laying the paving.
Any thoughts or alternatives?

I've had a big old Wisteria, it didn't make sink-holes.

However rats love to live under decking, and like to dig underground burrows.

Post some photos and put some bait down, see if it disappears.

Was there a rat-table full of rat-food nearby? (or a bird-table, which is the same thing)
And a source of water?

No rats and no bird food. I'm not sure what is happening. When I took up the decking around the wisteria there were what looked like big fungal growths. I couldn't tell if that was from the roots of the plant or from the softwood decking.
