Wood Burner in to former Gas fireplace

Hi there,

In our new house we have a blanked inset fire. Having looked inside i've discovered that there was probably a back boiler in there at some point. As there are decommissioned (sawn off) pipes.

The missus has always wanted a log burner (or multi fuel) so we've been looking at Inset stoves to fit in the gap.

My question is about the chimney. Current there is a flue pipe concreted in.

My question is, would this be usable for an inset wood burner? Or would we need to have the whole thing redone (which starts to get more expensive than we had planned) I believe we made need to change the flue as standard gas ones are not suitable for stoves? Along with the fact it has been sawn off and sits almost flush with the concreted chimney ceiling.

The other option is an inset electric fire. But we honestly haven't found anything that doesn't look naff.

I stumbled on this post by accident. I'm not sure about the ins and outs of the log burner, but be careful that that closure panel around your flue pipe is not asbestos insulating board. If your not sure, I'd leave it well alone and get it checked out by a professional.
