Good Morning,

I'm needing some advice on our woodburner surround, the sealant around the backboard/side walls has cracked and some has come away completely (see photos) I suspect the incorrect material was used when the previous owners installed it.
What is the best sealant/filler to use? Or would it be best to take a different approach? We have limited funds at the moment but want to do a good job.
Thanks

Thanks Bonni, I'm planning on doing that and asking for recommendations for the correct materials to use. I've never had a wood burner before or fixed a fire surround before.

Then unfortunately it doesn't conform to building regs if that bothers you, which states that the flue pipe should be 3 x its diameter from combustibles, yours looks like a 125mm one

Looking at the OP's photo's, the gap between the heater and top board looks a lot more than 375mm.
Maybe the OP could take a measurement to check?

Its if any part of a single skin flue pipe is in the line of sight distance from the beam, with my own I had to extend the twin wall lower to give 450mm, 3 x 150mm, clearance from the beam or fit a heat shield to it

I think the OP should get a HEATAS inspection, if not piece of mind but also to avoid any insurance issues down the road
