My worcester 24CDI combi is giving me grief. There seems to be a number of problems with this machine. These problems occur in no particular order:

(1) I turn the CH dial on. The CH light illuminates, the flame light illuminates and the boiler ignites and runs for six seconds, during which, the boiler makes all the right noises. After six seconds, the flame light goes out but CH light remains on and all the boiler whirring noises stop.No heating is produced.

2)When i turn the CH dial on the boiler makes a banging noise and the pressure needle goes wild at the same time.Sometimes the boiler will settle down and continue to function, or we get the results as problem (1)

3) There is no possibility of hot water without the CH on.

Unclean, cold and very very frustrated.[/i][/b]

sounds like the diverter valve to me

Would recommend you contact a decent boiler man

I'd also check the pump. My advice would be call Worcester Bosch themselves for a repair.

Yes it could well be totally blocked with hardened sludge in one of the horrible worcester plastic tight bends.

Skip it.

Shame you didn't have a bg contract sounds like the average boiler on contract.

what tight plastic bends Paul

I cannae think of any on the old 24cdi??

I would agree if it were a 350 but I have never seen a 24cdi blocked beyond repair

Oh well live and learn.

:)

It won't be if it's on a bg contract it will be renewed except for the outer case until it works.

nowt wrong with that.

there is plenty wrong with cdi's though.

if it is blocked chances are it will directly above the pump or the main heatex will be blocked in several places.

Thank you one and all for your advice/hints/tips.We had a local chap round, well, a member of the family actually. He scratched his head for a while and was befuddled.Between himself and his mate on the other end of the phone, they decided it was the pump as it was, A)Not rotating and B) Was getting rather hot thus causing the system to shut down.He then decided to remove the grub type screw from the face of the pump and did indeed witness the lack if impellar movement. He then proceeded to prod the impellar shaft with a posi-drive, tried to obtain life by turning the system on and hey presto, around went the pump and all was and still is ok.There we have it.The pump was siezed.Maybe with sediment or something else. The missus is therefore very happy with her new/old boiler and as a consequence, i am now, once again, happy with mine ; P cheers now.

Well if he is a bus driver or something then thats understandable!

However if he works on heating systems then without any communication with a friend he should have diagnosed within two minutes of taking the cover off ( 10 seconds ) that the pump was not rotating! He did not need to remove the shaft cover screw to do that!
