Hi there, Can anyone help me please?

First time I have used the central heating for such a long time and when I flick on the central heating, the pressure gauge indicator goes right round to the max (4) The radiators are fine and don't appear to need bleeding. When I looked outside, there is a copper pipe coming from the boiler and through the brick, this had water pouring out! I could only get it to stop if I switched the boiler off!

Just wondered if I am missing something very obvious? Pressure is normally between 1 and 2 when the boiler is normally on for hot water. There is a white key inserted that is at the 12.30 Position. Is that normal? Don't want to mess around incase I do some damage so hoping you kind people may be able to offer some advice!

Thanks in advance x Maria

Hi, No one has touched the boiler for a long time, hot water all performing as normal, Just not noticed the water on the external wall before (which coincides with the central heating being switched on)

Sounds like you need the expansion vessel recharging or replacing. Water us expanding and opening up the pressure relief valve, hence the water outside

Thanks NortonJ, Is that an easy thing to do( if I can get hold of the instructions)? Or should I call the professionals in?

It depends how confident you are. You need to locate the expansion vessel within the boiler attach a pump (footpump with a pressure gauge would be fine) and then with a drain valve open to ensure system pressure is at zero pump the footpump up to about 1 bar. If this does not solve it then the expansion vessel has failed and will need replacing.
