Worcester 28 si II gaining pressure

My 2 1/2 year old boiler keeps gaining pressure , the relief valve is working and throwing oout the water when required, i drain it of from the relief valve approx every 2 days back down to 1bar , give it a couple of days and its up to 3bar+ cold. A plumber i know told me to discon the filling loop to check it is not leaking through that which i did nad this has not solved the problem, what else could it be ??? I did not think the CH and DHW pipes could seep into each other anywhere?? or do they . could this explain the funny smell from the water when i run the cold and hot water , it lasts for a few seconds then goes.

I have been told that worcester do a standard call out for £180 and ill replace up to 3 parts on this visit... is this true ??? or would it be cheeper to get a corgi heating engineer to fix this problem whatever it may be ??

The water to water heat exchanger or Calorifier is passing mains pressure water to the heating.....

as it is a fault with the boiler that may be heat ex related. 180 quid is a bargin

Suggest you confirm the prices with woosta, but I would expect the part to cost nearly as much as their fixed price repair.

thanks for the replies , but what is a Calorifier ??
Is it an urgent repair if it is the heat exchanger or will i get away with releasing the pressure ever other day ?
Could the CH water be entering my DCW and DHW supply and causing harmfull contamination?

Sorry didnt make that clear. It is the water to water heat exchanger.
The bit that gives you hot water.
Central heating water passes across the cold mains water indirectly.

Still got the problem xmas is over so time to get it sorted.
Phoned Worcester and arranged for an engineer tomorrow prices quoted :

£185 replace up to 3 parts except the heat exchanger
£245 replace up to 3 parts and including heat exchanger

Both prices include labour.. not sure if price is including or excluding VAT

I have the very same boiler and problem. Phoned Worcester tech for confirmation "yer it 'appens".(no actually they were pretty good)

However mine has had it for 4 months+ so it's not fatal. I just bleed off the excess most days. However I phoned parts center and got a price of 180 +vat trade for the HE (which is an easy fix as it's 4 x nuts to remove.)

However as mine is 4+ years old I wonder if it's an economical repair considering that boilers aren't made to last....??

However in conversation with a plumber he pondered that there is a strong possibility that "it waz da watr dat did dit" and perhaps I should sort that out first before swapping. I hazard to suggest a power flush clean before the system is repaired. However those more qualified here etc will hopefully prevail

Well as promised Worcester turned up today , New Heat exchanger and PRV fitted for £245 (inc VAT).

Asked engineer why would the HE go faulty , 3 reasons .

1 , Too high water pressure ( Doubt this at my house )

2 , Bad instalation of boiler with solder / flux getting into the pipework..( if that was the case then would it not have gone faulty alot sooner than 2 1/2 years after instalation?)

3 , manufacturs fault

he told me when the worksheet came through the post to me , to then phone up and complain that i am not happy that this part has gone faulty after 30 months ( which is what the tech advisor on the phone told me to do aswell when i reported the problem ) you may get a refund or get a 12 month service/ breakdown . gonna try will keep u updated.
