Hi All

Recently I ve been told that my Worcester boiler has been wired incorrectly because every time the timer comes on the boiler switches on and go through startup routine.

Can someone confirm if the boiler should be on all the time. Ie blue light lit and then when the timer comes on the boiler fires up?

Also Ive noticed with the current setup that if the heating timer comes on before the hot water the boiler remains off. Ie no blue light. ( Have not noticed this before because thw boiler is in the garage and the hotwater and heating comes on the sametime.

Thanks

The boiler has been wired incorrectly. The blue light should be on all the time, but the boiler should only run when there is a demand for heat.

What boiler did you have previously?
How did you choose the installer?
Did you check that he was Gas Safe Registered?

I had an extension built last year and when I asked about corgi registered he says he has someone qualified to do it. The boiler has been relocated in garage.

Have you got the cdi combi? Is the programmer twin channel?

no it not the combi one. As for the programmer it does heating and hot water on separate timer so would that classify as twin channel ?

thanks

see my reply in the original post.

blue light should be permanently on, it sound like from you description the boiler hasn't been wired with a permanent live supply, which is why it goes through the start up procedure each time as when there is no call for heat the boiler turns itself off completely.
I would get it sorted quick as the pump over run wont work until it is rectified and can lead to damage to your heat exchanger due to residual heat not being dissipated, and that wont be covered under warranty.

Thanks for you reply, also sorry that there is two posting on the same subject as I thought my phone didn't submit the post.

Is it straight forward to wire a permanent live supply to it ?

thanks

It is straightforward, if you know what you are doing.

It gives the impression that the builder got one of his (unqualified) workmen to install the boiler, then paid a mate to come along and sign it off, without checking it had been installed correctly.

You said the boiler is in the garage. Has a frost stat and pipe stat been installed to protect the exposed pipework? The boiler has built-in frost protection, but that only protects the boiler, not the pipework.

If the boiler has been wired incorrectly, there's a good chance the pump has as well.

Was the Benchmark Checklist in the back of the Installation Manual completed and signed? If so, it might be worth phoning Gas Safe Register (0800 408 5500) and making a complaint. The installer's GSR number will be on the Checklist, possibly as the Corgi ID number. Make sure you tell them the whole story about the installation, i.e who did what.

I'm sorry if this doesn't tell what you want to know.
