With all respect, the mods will be more annoyed with you than anyone else that has posted. So think yourself lucky that you have been given the advice you have and be happy ;)

Ok I won't call you an idiot as your a control systems engineer. But take a look at Rule 10 of this site.

Maybe you will then realise that Gas Safe Engineers don't pay a yearly membership fee, re-examinations every 5 years, ridiculous public liability insurance charges, etc. to spout information to any Tom, Dick or Harry Engineers for them to solve themselves leaving the appliance inadeqquately tested. Just because it's an electrical component your looking at, doesn't mean that anything you remove and refit will not adversely effect the safe functionality of the appliance.

If your a control systems engineer, you must be able to afford a qualified Gas Safe Registered Engineer, even an expensive one. ;) ;) ;)
