Hi,

We have a 24i which is about 6yrs old. It will produce hot water but no C/H. Once the HW is turned off then then boiler has a little fit and turns off, safety button pops out. The boiler will turn back on if the button is pressed down, but will have the same fit again. If you try and turn the heating on the boiler will make the noise but no action!!!

It sounds like the boiler is producing hot water for the heating and not being able to pump it. You can hear a hissing noise like an outlet valve just before the pilot light stops...

Do you guys have any ideas what maybe going on?

Many thanks

Water demand switch stuck on?
Short of system water?

Sounds like the pump is kaput.

Pump not used during a hot water demand but should run for a short while after the tap is turned off. Sounds like yours is not doing that.

Also if pump is dead you won't get any heating and it will just overheat.

If you are thinking of doing it, whatever you do don't touch the isolating vaves under the boiler. They WILL leak if you do ;)

Sounds indeed like pump has given up. Check for corrosion or limescale particles in pump when you replace it. if the pump failed due to debris, you are likely to get the same problem back before too long.

First thing to do is see if the pump shaft is free to turn

If so then see if it turns when CH is selected.

Either jammed or faulty IF it overheats when CH is selected.
