Hi, I need some work doing and I have been recommened local handyman to do the work. I need 2 doors shaving as they don't shut right. I need a old light removing and replacing with a uplight and I need a handrail fitting on the stairs. I don't want to be ripped off, so what do you guys think I should be paying for this work to be done. I have no idea? I live in yorkshire if thats any help.

Where about's in Yorkshire do you live?
Some folk are tighter than others!
It would be difficult to offer you an expected estimated cost, location sometimes cost. If your in Harrogate, your likely to pay more than if in Keighley.
The type of doors and exactly what requires shaving and where would also be factor.
Type of hand fitting, number of brackets , any ends required, does the hand rail turn at any point. The structure that is being fit to, all require calculations on cost.
The light fitting, is extra cabling required, will this then require specialised jointing for non accessible joints? is the cable buried and chased and requires remedial work to wall? Will this also mean RCD protection is required for buried cable? Is the existing cable earthed? Does that then mean the light requires an earth connection, if it is not double insulated type of fitting?

So many variables, without seeing the job in real life, who could say.
But if you are employing a handyman to do electrical work, make sure they fully understand the requirements and building regulations. It's just not a case of put it up and it works, so that's fine!
