Worktop by the freestanding cooker

Hi.

Could anyone advice me is it a nessassery to have a metal cap on laminated worktop by freestading oven?? Or can I have a edging strip instead??

oh crap,that was meant to say metal strip(cap)
its to do with transference of heat,over time the laminate strip will part company with the worktop,whereas the metal strip will always stay there.

read the manufacturers instructions with regards to clearance from combustible material
 
I dislike metal worktop strips, but experience has shown that laminate edging strip just doesn't last next to cookers, and once moisture has got in and lifted the laminate and swollen the substrate it's impossible to repair. Therefore I would advise metal strips, whether or not required by regulations.
