I've got loads of walls like this having taken off acres horrible wallpaper left by the previous owner.

I'm trying to avoid reskimming if I can (for cost/time reasons), so wondering if a dry wall sander would get the flaky glue and other crud off before easyfilling the holes? I'll be painting over it and want to get a decent finish.

Cheers
Bertles

I recently did a v.similar endeavour. Scrape and wash it off. One of these was amazing.

Agree with above
I used a combination of a big scrapper like above, some stuff that I can't remember the name off but was meant to dissolve glue, and afterwards a normal orbital sander fitted to a vacuum cleaner.

I think I saw a drywall sander on Lidl or Aldi recently

Thanks all for the replies. I'd been using one of those scrapers to get the wallpaper off and kept gouging big holes in the wall... guess I just need to give it a bit less welly!

I don't have an orbital or a drywall sander at the moment so trying to work out which one to go for, the Aldi one is very tempting at that price although I guess less flexible than getting an orbital one

Getting the angle correct on those scrapers is vital.
Practice is the answer. Keep the wall wet enough to make it easy but also as lubrication

Fresh blades as well. Had a few very large rooms and got through 15 or 20 blades.
