Y plan wiring

I'll bet you were wondering why there were 5 wires on the valve?

You have no neutral on there

Usually the operation of the three position valve tells the boiler to fire and turns the pump on. (orange wire)
This does not happen until the valve has operated/.

Important otherwise the pump is hammering away while the valve has the water stopped off.

The 3-position valve never stops the water from circulating. It allows water to be pumped either (1) to DHW only, (2) to DHW and space heating or (3) to space heating only.

The valve position turns the boiler on when space heating is called. The DHW cylinder thermostat turns the boiler on when DHW heat is called. That's why there's an orange wire from both the cylinder stat and the 3-position valve.
