Joining the British Army is voluntary, they can't attract the numbers. National Service is compulsory, they'd have no choice. It may well come to that. Of course it isn't cost free but where is all this money coming from exactly? You voted for this guy, I didn't, so I don't have the answers, but I do know they came into power announcing a £22 million black hole.
I didn't vote for him! But taxes and borrowing I expect.
Obviously, if there is a recruitment problem, that makes it very difficult. I wasn't aware of that. Maybe better terms and conditions would fix it. The way NATO fights now makes it very difficult to use National Service troops. The tactics are very complex and you really need highly trained and motivated career soldiers.

There is a recruitment problem big time. We bred patriotism as a value out of this country and we are still doing it. Few young Brits want to join the army. Most polls say young Brits see this country as racist. They also aren't sure what gender they are. Good times make for weak men and we are reaping what we sow.
