My 2006 Zafira B 1.6 seems to be overheating even on very short journeys.

This model does not have a temp gauge, but even after journeys of a couple of miles the electric fan is cutting in and remaining on for several minutes after turning off the engine.

The car has done 51000 miles. It has also just had a cambelt and water pump change and I am wondering if this has something to do with it.

Cheers.

Initially I would suspect the thermostat isn't working......feel the radiator from inside the engine bay.
If its hot throughout its area then water is circulating, if its cold (and if the fan is on) then the coolant isn't circulating. You'll get an idea by feeling the hoses too - when the bottom one heats then you know the thermostat has opened.
John :)
(PS Anyone know where the 'stat is on these? Some had them behind the water pump, if memory serves.)

Thankfully no problems with catching fire...yet!

Turns out it wasn't overheating, but an electrical fault was causing the fan to cut in almost all the time. Lack of a temp gauge on these cars means it's difficult to tell when the engine is getting too hot.
