Hello! I’ve tried my hand at paneling. It was a new plasterboard wall, I mist coated it with diluted emulsion, then after a few weeks have down MDF panelling and panted the wall, the paint was peeling off in sheets!! I stripped down the entire lot, guy at the hardware store recommended I paint zinsser bullseye 123 suitable for both MDF and plaster board… (even though it doesn’t say this on the tin!) painted 2 hours ago and now the bloody thing is peeling off! I’m literally going to scream! I’m not sure what’s going on, I did such a lot of work to take all the peeling paint off only to now have the same nightmare! Any help on what’s going on? The first pic is the paint peeling off in sheets the second is the zinsser now peeling off. Thank you!

Your mistake was the mist coat.
Watering down some emulsions too much makes them lose strength and binders. This happens with contract emulsion or many cheap paints but over thinned paint can cause problems.
Even worse if you apply a durable emulsion over as they don't like dry surfaces.
Better to mist coat with the coloured emulsion following the manufacturer online data sheet.
Bet you never read the data sheets for any of the products?
I would of coated all the plasterboard and MDF with zinsser Gardz first.
Can you peel off all the paint?
Sand back smooth with 180 grade.
Apply one Gardz.
Straight on we with your top coat of emulsion. Read data sheet online about thining but in warm weather I sometimes just add a splash especially with durable emulsion.

Also don't go digging at it until it cured.
Recoat time might be 2 hours but cure time might be 8 or more.
This means paint is not gone hard and fully dry and stuck for 8 hours.

Thanks for your reply. So I need to get all the bullseye 123 off and then put gardz on? I am not sure I can peel it all off, so would have to try sand… just a point of clarification, do you recommend I try get it all off now or wait until fully cured… it actually says that could be 7 days! Thanks
