It's quite a good time to have downlights now, with LED becoming the norm. Nice and bright, and hopefully the end of failing transformers and burnt out fittings.

However, i'm now SICK of downlighters. They are everywhere. I don't think the light any of them give out is particularly pleasant. Ceilings peppered with downlights are beginning to look 'common', for want of a better word.

When are they going to go out of fashion? After about 15 years of these things being a serious 'must have', I really think it's time for a change.

Bring back the centre light, or even off-centre light, I say.

I'm sick of them too.

I'm sick of installing them, I'm even more sick of having to fix ones that have died.

Why don't you get an on-line petition up and running? If it gets at least 100,000 signatures, it will be considered for debate in the House of Commons.

Can't see point of them, one bulb in the middle of the room has same effect of 8 / 10 down lighters !

I think your somewhat preaching to the converted on here

Everyone raves about the LED's but TBH its just another iteration of crap. The good ones are very expensive, and we all know no-one buys expensive stuff, they buy the cheapest tat they can find. The cheap ones have a horrible beam pattern, or a decent beam but are dim, or last 12 minutes before flickering/failing etc etc.

When i moved in to this place, every room had those spotlight bars which take four GU10's bar the livingroom, which had 24! downlights in the ceiling split over three dimmers AND a centre light... and the bathroom which had 5 50w gu10s lighting a space thats about 8ft square...

Went streight to screwfix and bought a sackload of pendants and standard switches and replaced the lot. Livingroom downlights are disconnected and will vanish when i replace the ceiling, and i've put some LED's into the bathroom for now, will probably replace that with a 2D fluro at some point soon (i'll need to patch up the bloody ceiling after so it'll be waiting until the kitchens finished). Kitchen will be getting a couple 4ft fluros once i've finished remodelling in there.
