£2000 light fitting

I'd imagine with the up lights turned on and the down lights off or dimmed the ceiling is sort of picked out by the up light.

Unfortunately theatres need lights and none seem to be able to avoid steel tress frame works and all that.

They look pretty meaty, what do they weigh and are they simply hung on jack chain ?

Whats supplying the 0-10v? Lighting board, fader panel? if a board it'll have to be a fairly old theatre board perhaps a strand Lightboard M?

All the house lighting is controlled by a big lutron dimmer / control panel. I'll try and remember to take a couple of pics tomorrow.

There are scene setters at various points around the theatre for house light control, and this can be overridden and controlled from the lighting desk on DMX.

The other lanterns you can see are ETC source fours with 150W HID lamps, and are also controlled by the lutron panel. Not sure if they are dimmed as well, or just switched.

We use a lot of source four profiles blooming good lamps!
please have a butchers at the lighting desk if you can and take some pics of it, be interested to see what they are using.

Nice project Dan, do you use some form of RC time function to read the pots in your switchplates?

The problem you state about the lights staying on due to HTP couldn't you write into the software so it works on LTP instead?

Hi Tim.

Yeah reading the pots from the pc would be the sensible way to do it.
Sadly (or not) they are interfaced directly to the dimmers (they have a 0-10v input) which overrides the DMX inputs (if the DMX setting is lower)

Normally it's fine, no one uses the light switches any more (they are so last century!!) and the system dims the lights on and off.

However, if people operate the switch and leave it on, the lights stay on.
Given that they don't really serve any purpose anymore, I should just disconnect them I suppose...

Thanks for your interest,
-Dan

I know its extra cost but you could link the pots through an interface to a PC DMX "desk" which caters for LTP

http://www.milinst.com/DMX/1_463.pdf

This interface could read 0-5v from your pots(10K) over 4 channels( DMX daisy chain the convertors for more channels, 28 per universe) and convert it to DMX then the PC "desk" could be set to LTP, problem solved.

Just looked at your webpage again and it looks like you may already be using this interface, so all you need do is rewire those pots to it and link the interface as above :D

Much has been said about the reliability of PC based versions of DMX controllers for domestic purposes it wouldn't be a problem if the controller crashed occasionally, for professional use they are best avoided or backed by suitable hardware/linebackers etc

Don't worry.

I forgot to take any pics of the lutron panel anyway. I'll try and remember this weekend.
