electric shower problem

The following problem is occuring with my 8.5kw electric shower.

When the 45amp pullcord control switch is switched on the the neon light on it illuminates, when the on/off switch on the shower is turned on the neon light on the 45amp control switch goes out and the shower fails to produce hot water. When shower operation switched off again the neon light comes on again.

Any advice welcome. Thanks

- Loose connection in switch
- Faulty switch
- Loose connection earlier in circuit

Look in the switch first and check tightness of connections, but only if you know how to safely isolate.

Does seem like a dodgy neutral doesn't it.

I'll give you ten to one it's the switch if it's a contactum.

I have a Triton 8.5kw electric shower and I am experiencing the same problem. I contacted the manufacturer and a technician was sent out. I was told that the power supply to the shower was too low and was told to contact the electric supplier but was reluctant coz I have used it for 9 years and all of a sudden a fall of power to the shower! Can anyone tell me why the power supply has fallen all of a sudden. I have a multimeter but don't know how to use it.

Problem is still not fix yet, using shower connection to the bath at the moment.

So I would also like to know what the problem is.

Your problem may be completely different to the original poster, so you should have started your own thread. Indeed we dont know what the original problem was! Only guesses.

And unless you give more info, we will only be guessing again.

What size is the cable to the shower and switch?
What size is the MCB or fuse protecting the shower?
Is there an RCD protecting the shower (these have a test button in addition to the switch and may be wider than an MCB)?
What is the cable length in total between fusebox and shower, and does it run through any insulation?

Have you inspected the wiring inside the shower switch?
Have you inspected the wiring inside the shower?
Have you inspected the wiring inside the fusebox? (Only do this if you feel confident exposing potentially live parts and are aware of the dangers within)
When inspecting you're looking for signs of burning and melting.

Does the pullswitch actualy work? Many sieze up when their innards are burnt up.
