Mira Extreme Thermostatic Shower-circa 5 years old

Always been rather noisey but not too serious. Just recently though noise varies and so does the water flow.
Have looked inside and is dusty from carbon brush wear. Have ordered new brushes. Will fit when received and clean filters and hope it sorts out the problem. Other than that presumably a new motor is required?

Has anyone had a similar problem and if so do you have any advice?

does sound like a brush problem if the motor is not working fully.
but you say it has always been noisey is this from new or what ?
maybe one of the springs on the brushes is not pushing the brush on the armiture fully.
are they fully worn down?

Yes it has been more noisey than I expected from new.

You mention the spring, and strangely the one easily accessed did not appear to be fully seating properly against the brush. If that's the case it's been like it from the start. That brush however does look quite low and that's really why I thought that the brushes could be the problem, particularly bearing in mind the amount of black dust within the casing. I haven't really opened the whole thing up to have a proper look because it still "works" but will do so when the brushes arrive.

strange as you say from new.
just double check it hasn't damaged the armiture.

check the motor is secure and not vibrating in the casing.

Just a follow up to my earlier post. The brushes arrived but were not quite the ones needed. They had internal springs but the existing had external springs which pushed the brushes against the armiture. They also looked to be reasonably OK, although the armiture did look worn. I cleaned the filters and generally tidied the unit up but the end result was better but not good.
Have since bought and fitted a new motor/pump unit and boy what a difference. It works well and so quiet, at least for the moment. Again thanks for earlier comments.

I found the replacement reasonably easy. The installation instructions which came with the shower unit when I first bought it showed the procedure to replace this piece of equipment and provided that you follow it, all should be OK. If you don't have these instructions you can usually download them from the manufacturers web site providing you know the model number.
